About me
Hi, I’m Jo, the founder of Joanna Evans Art Therapy. I have a deep passion for helping others through various creative processes, whether individually or in group settings. My journey into art therapy began with my own healing experience; it played a crucial role in overcoming depression and anxiety, stemming from my upbringing in a narcissistic family and the loss of my mum to cancer when I was just 20.
Navigating marriage and raising our four beautiful boys—one of whom has ADHD and Autism—while dealing with postnatal and antenatal depression was incredibly challenging, especially without family or community support. However, creative art therapy has been my lifeline, continuing to support me even today.
You might be curious about how I transitioned from feeling trapped in bureaucratic organizations that prioritized profit over people to establishing my own art therapy support work. During a restructuring at my previous workplace, it became clear that they had ambitious plans but no strategy for execution or staff retention. As I watched my colleagues leave one by one, I realized I could no longer stay. I convinced my husband it was a good idea to quit my boring day job and start my own creative art therapy support work business.
And I did it!
With extensive education and personal experience, I’ve developed the tools to empower others to integrate essential creative art therapy and counselling skills that can easily be integrated into your daily work with your participants as well as your own lives.
